Last things first: Jane is doing great. She will use the weekend to go over the different steps to make sure she will be ready for next weeks action. Therefore you won’t read a post during the weekend, we’ll be back Monday, 21st May.

Another long day has eaten up Jane’s energy. Not an easy lesson for her. This is what we have covered:

• Why creating a LIST is a MUST DO for any serious online marketer.
• How to create Newsletter sign-up boxes and where to place them.
• How to integrate your autoresponder by UMC without messing up HTML in WordPress.
• How to write quality content for your series or how to get the content for free.
• How to generate hot Bullet Points for the sign-up  box with the free Bullet Point Generator. 
• How to monetize Thank You and Confirmation Pages (for sign-ups) in a unique way.

This lesson was somehow typical for the problems that one can face when starting this sort of business. If everything would work together as it is supposed to work, there wouldn’t be any problems. But you know how it goes: WordPress does not like your autoresponder, which has a problem with the theme you are using which can lead to small and even big frustration!

That’s why it is so good to have a back-up, somebody that you can ask, a mentor, a responsive, managed forum, or a coach that is willing to show you the little short cuts.

Now, Jane is eager to implement everything over the weekend because I promised that I will show her a way to get her first 100 subscribers within 72 hours at no cost:-)

Time is flying and our main goal seems to be far away and around the corner at the same time. Oh, in case I haven’t shared it with you, Jane’s first goal is to earn $1000 within her first four weeks! We will get this done, for sure.

DAY 6 & 7
Time: 2 hours and 5 minutes
Task: SEO, Article and Directory Submissions, Links

You might wonder how I can send out day 6 and 7 today. It’s because Jane needs another day. Today she spent 2 hours for just learning her lesson, checking out various websites related to article marketing, tools and a general introduction. Since I saw her eyes without a burning desire, I knew it was time for a short day.

This is why I  love to compare sport and business all the time. If you train too hard every day without taking proper days off and easy going workouts, you will not increase your performance. It’s vice versa, your performance will drop each time you over-train. Same in business. Push it too hard and you will lose momentum, focus, energy! Hence, the extra day for her!

What have we covered today?

Well, Jane knows that it makes sense to get as many links as she can get. She understands that the links are supposed to come from websites with relevant niches/topics/products. She will be focused on getting one-way-links because they have more value to the search engines. Finally, she will make sure that the incoming links won’t be directed to her index page alone but also to all other sub-pages to be found on her website.

Not bad for two hours, agree?

Additionally she discovered Article Directories, such as ezinearticles.com, where her articles will create back-links to her website. She was a bit shocked to see that these articles have to be re-written because she is not in love with writing. With the free Article Compare Tool  (to be found under the Tools/Writing Tools/Tab)  you can compare two articles and see if you have to change more content of it. Finally I showed her some Web directories that will only have a little impact on her ranking.

Conclusion: A good, short day with some key information that she can use tomorrow all day long.

Yesterday I thought Jane put in maximum effort, until I summed up today’s time: 10:50h! Let’s see what she has done during these hours.

DAY 5
Time: 10 hours and 50 minutes
Task: SEO, Writing Reviews 
Resources: Traffic Travis, WordPress, XsitePro

Almost 11 hours is a serious time investment that Jane split into two sessions. One with me, explaining the various tasks and the second one spending time on her own optimizing pages and articles & writing two types of review.

Frankly speaking, one of the great resources I discovered through Mark Ling is his tool Traffic Travis. This is a MUST HAVE free SEO software! Ican’t believe that he is giving it out for free!

Before you even continue reading, go there now and get your free copy of Traffic Travis. Trust me on this!

Before having me going into details of On-Page SEO, download your copy of Traffic Travis and read the Mini-SEO-Course that will come with it. Loads of great insights that will help you to increase your organic search position over time. I want to give you a quick checklist that you should remember when building your website:

• Control your kewords: They have to be keywords people are searching for because they want to buy something and not just looking for information.
• Content is King: Make sure to add content of high value. It’s better not to add anything rather than adding low quality. Never ever copy content as this will ruine your ranking for sure. Search engines hate duplicate content.
• Put in a Title Tag that contains your keyword.
• H1 headings: This is your headline with your keyword in it. Will make it more relevant.
• Meta Tags: Describes the content and the keywords.
• Add your keywords within the first 50 words of your site.
• Make your page and file names easy. Just click on any of my posts and you’ll see the title name vs. page=id5
• Add a Sitemap
• When linking add the keyword and make this linkable as well.

With WP you can change most of the things in your settings area whereas in XsitePro you can change these things offline and upload the changes afterwards. The real work will start when going through this checklist for each and every site and article. With the help of Traffic Travis though, it will be fun, sometimes.

Writing Reviews

Next, Jane had to write 2 different reviews. One Product Review that you will know from book reviews and these kind of things and a Side-by-Side review that is a common way to compare software having loads of different features.

I am sure you have seen those which is why I don’t go into details right now. Just want to make a point: Reviews convert extremely well IF you make it a real review. Don’t repeat something that you have read somewhere else, don’t try to trick your reader/potential customer because this way you won’t build a relation with him.

If you don’t know the product, make sure to get a copy or read enough reviews from trusted sites with Pros and Cons, go to forums where customers are discussing the product and then write your review.

What a day. Nine and a half hours! You see how focused Jane is? Impressive.

DAY 4
Time: 9 hours and 30 minutes
Task: Create a unique header, Design your site with WP, Lay out articles 
Resources: WordPress, XsitePro, paint.net, Affilorama

This was hard work! I cannot say how much energy this has cost both of us. Amazing. OK, let’s start at the beginning.

First of all Jane had to design her first header. I forgot  how hard that can be if you are not used to a design software for some months or even years.  Thanks to the endless resources of Mark Ling’s Affilorama I was able to recommend a free software that surprises me. Why? Because it easily outperform most of the expensive software found on the market. Paint.net helped a lot to make things easier but still, picking one or more images, putting them together on different layers, choosing size, color, you name it, can be a nightmare. In our case almost 6 hours!

Once the header was done, the progress started to take off again. In case you are using WordPress you cannot take full advantage of the lesson since you don’t have the WP-theme that came with the course. (IN CASE YOU WONDER WHAT ELSE YOU COULD DO, CHECK OUT THIS THEME WHICH I AM USING MYSELF PERSONALLY)

One thing you should do, it do install a cool plug-in that you will need anyway: TinyMCE. It will give the WP editor a lot more flexibility that you will need for sure.

Eventually we could work on laying our her articles to give them the best possible chance of earning her money.  This is critical. For some reason, people don’t take this advice seriously which is strange because this is the main reason for writing articles: To earn money! Therefore take this advice:

• Place your first link above the fold (the part of the screen that one can see without scrolling)
• Place a nice image on the right or left above the fold and make it link to your offer
• Place a Call  To Action above the fold. This will tell the customer what to do.

Sounds easy? Right but believe me, too many people don’t do it. Your advantage if you are smart.

After four days, I have to say that I am proud of Jane, so is she! Slowly she can see what her page will look like and the first breeze of money is in the air.

Just wait and see what Day5 will bring.

Happy Weekend! I have added an extra line in the overview called resources because some of you have asked for all the tools we are using on the related days. You can check them out by clicking on the link. Affiliate Marketing should be as easy as possible.

DAY 3
Time: 2 hours and 45 minutes
Task: Choose a Domain Name, Set-up Hosting, Build and upload your website 
Resources: NetworkSolutions, UMC, WordPress, XsitePro  

To my surprise, choosing a Domain Name took most of the time. To me it has some similarities with Keyword Research where it pays to think outside the box. Same method is valid when choosing the right domain name. Although lots of top names have been taken, there is always a chance to find a .com domain without dashes; because this is what you want.

A good example is my domain name affiliatemarketinggrowth.com which I have purchased this year. It has two top performing keywords in it, affiliate and marketing, and explains exactly what the website is all about. And you know what’s best?

Go to Google and type ‘affiliate marketing growth’ and guess who ranks #1 (maybe2)? Yes Sir, that’s me! OK, you might say that the search amount is not too high but with some variations I get 1000 potential customers from Google alone; not too bad after less than 2 months!

That’s why you should think twice before buying your domain name. Also think of this: Is your domain name for a single product or do you want to add more than one product? Maybe you even want to become an authority in a certain niche which should make the choice different.

After Jane took a great decision, we got her an ALL-IN-ONE-ACCOUNT from the Ultimate Marketing Center. I strongly recommend this as one of the best services I have ever joined. No wonder Super-Affiliate Ewen Chia recommended it to me and he really knows his stuff!

If you are going to build your first website or it still does far too much time to build one in a new niche, I recommend two resources in order to get the job done in no time:

1. WordPress – A free blogging software that is more like a CMS system
2. XSitePro – A website builder specially made for Online Marketers

I love WordPress but I truly believe you should have XSitePro in your arsenal of marketing weappons as well. I cannot go in more details but in case you belong to one of the mentioned groups, go ahead and check out these two great resources: WordPress & XSitePro.

Although Jane is building her first website with WordPress, she does build pages with XSitePro at the same time; extra work that will pay out for sure!

Through the CPanel of her hosting account, it was just one click to set-up her very first website with WordPress. Cool! Next time, Day 4, Jane will make her website look pretty and give it a professional touch.

Day2 is here. Let’s dive in immediately.

DAY 2
Time: 4 hours and 15 minutes
Task: Content is King, How to find good quality content for your website

The second day worked out just great although it includes something that most marketers don’t like a lot: Writing articles. Now that Jane has decided on her 30 relevant-buyers-keywords, it was time to start creating the first  three to ten articles.

If you look at the most common ways of creating articles, it is no wonder that you can find so many poorly written of them online. What you can do?

• Write them yourself
• Outsource the writing by using a free-lance service, such as elance or rent-a-coder, etc
• Use PLR or Private Label Rights
• Make use of a software that claims to do it for you

Here you go, to me most of the options are not the ones that I’d recommend to do, especially not when starting out. Do you want a newbie dealing with all the ups and downs that will happen for sure when outsourcing for the first time? For sure not!

Do you want to let a beginner re-write articles that another 1000 people want to use as well? Certainly not!

Shall a starter, while entering the new world of Affiliate Marketing, go through the hassle and the learning curve of another software that in most cases won’t do any good? C’mon, don’t even think of it!

Conclusion: Write your own articles and let a third person check it before uploading!

This is what Jane did. Within the time-frame she not only managed to collect information from forums, directories and authority sites but also put three articles out with 500, 524 and 624 words. Not too bad, actually: Well done!

Still I have to say that writing articles isn’t an easy job but at the same time I am sure that she will be good at it once all 30 articles are done.

First day of the Affiliate Blueprint Project!

I will structure the information as easy as possible, so that you can learn from it and ask me questions that are related to a problem or topic that you might have experienced yourself. Also note that my newbie will get a name from today, so she is called Jane, which she insisted on being her nickname; never mind.

DAY: 1
Time: 7 hours and 5 minutes
Task: Affiliate Marketing, Product & Market Research, Keyword Research

As you can see from the time spent, the start of this project wasn’t as easy as I thought. Finding a Profitable Niche by browsing tons of products on Clickbank.com sounds easy because we are so used to it but from the perspective of a starter it can be overwhelming. No surprise that Jane spent 2 hours on this task alone.

After she has chosen four products from the niche market, she has spent another 2 hours doing her Keyword Research which led to her first Keyword List. Problems? Not really, after getting used to a fantastic Keyword Research tool that is even free to download. 

Doing Market Research and Building your Keyword List with keywords that converts was a work that she appreciated after she understood that these words are the “path to the purchase”. Somehow it was scary for her to learn that one can mess up a project by building a homepage based on keywords that are made for ‘information seekers’ rather than potential customers.

Finally, she came up with a Top 30 list consisting of 25 keywords that she will have to use for articles and 5 keywords that are related to the products/merchants, specifically for product reviews.

She is motivated, so am I, cannot wait to build her first income stream as soon as possible. Love it!

Mark Ling has closed his doors to  Affiliate Blueprint!
